“Sun-drenched
and serene, Los Gigantes is a big hit with the
away-from-it-all crowd.”
Love
picturesque towns? Hanker after the quiet life on
holiday? Then partner up with Los Gigantes for a
match made in heaven. This tranquil town will
sweep you off your flip-flops with its charming,
village-like ambience. What’s here in the way of
things to do? There’s the glittering black sand
beach for starters. Snorkelling to your heart’s
content. Splash around in the shallows. Or simply
stretch out on the sands. Best of all, it’s
rarely crowded here so there’s always a
sun-speckled spot with your name on it. Not the
beach and sunbathing type? Don’t worry because
there’s plenty more to keep you occupied. Tuck
into a bowl of puchero, a saffron flavoured stew,
at one of the bars lacing the harbour. Watch the
colourful boats bob up and down on the waves. Or
jump on board and join a trip out to the deep blue
for a spot of dolphin and whale watching. Navigate
your way through the town’s tiny narrow streets.
Watch the world go by with a cup of steaming
coffee in the main square. And satisfy your
shopping cravings at the commercial centre.
Nightlife-wise, it’s a low key affair with
friendly bars and restaurants specialising in
fresh seafood. Delicious.
Beaches
There
is a small beach of black volcanic sand
immediately below the cliffs of Los Gigantes, and
another at neighbouring Puerto de Santiago.
Eating
out
The
excellent local restaurants specialise in seafood
with fresh fish always on the menu. Why not
experience some of the superb local seafood,
barbecued, and served with 'papas arrugadas' -
wrinkled potatoes?
Nightlife
In
keeping with the relaxed character of the resort,
the nightlife is low-key and found mainly in the
local bars. Try a glass of Ronmiel - a Canarian
blend of spirit and palm sap - as the sun goes
down over the stunning scenery of Los Gigantes.
Shopping
Although
there is a limited choice of shops in Los Gigantes,
they are adequate for those holiday essentials.
Local
information
The
dormant volcano, Mount Teide, at 3,718 metres is

visit, as part of one of the many boat trips you
can take from Los Gigantes.
